Characteristics of a Digital Citizen

Digital citizens are the individuals who use technology responsibly. They know how to engage and interact with others respectfully to avoid harassment and bullying. Digital citizens can find, evaluate, and use information from digital sources critically and effectively. They are knowledgeable when it comes to digital rights and responsibilities. Furthermore, they use the internet regularly and effectively because they have skills that know how to find, evaluate, and use information from digital sources critically. They know how to verify the credibility of sources before sharing information. Additionally, they engage in online activities such as uploading and sharing information online and watching and commenting on certain videos.

To further elaborate, let us use my friend Blaise as an example of a digital citizen because she regularly shops online but always checks the credibility of the websites before making purchases. She checks the reviews and the number of purchases before concluding that the product is worth it. She also protects her personal information by using strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. She is also very careful when it comes to her actions online; she avoids suspicious links to ensure that her account is secure. Moreover, she regularly updates her software and uses antivirus protection. As a good student, Blaise creates a blog for her subject, ELIE; she creates original content, and she gives credit to others when using their work.

For me, that is digital citizenship. The one who uses the internet effectively and not recklessly. They know what they are doing, and they protect their safety and security by knowing the rules and limitations in the online world. They do not inflict harm; rather, they perceive social media as a platform to share important and worthy news.
